MFSO Statement on Afghanistan – August 26, 2021

This morning, after learning about the double bombing at the airport in Kabul, it is with a heavy  heart that Military Families Speak Out report the news of the tragic deaths of our 12 US Marines  and sailors, the 15 that were wounded, and the 60 Afghans that were killed and over 140 that  were wounded. MFSO sends our deepest and profound sympathy to our troops and their families,  their loved ones and to the Afghan people who were killed and wounded in this senseless attack.  As always, we will be there for these families.

Remarkable efforts are still underway by our troops to evacuate Americans and our American  allies that so far has resulted in safely airlifting over 104,000 people from Afghanistan. We  continue to support the plan to remove all US troops and cease all military operations by  Aug.31st. We care deeply about the suffering of those that will not be able to be evacuated by this  deadline, but feel it is critical to remind the public that while our troops are under tremendous  pressure to complete the evacuation by August 31st, they remain in extreme danger. Now more  than ever our troops deserve our deep respect and support. Those who were killed died while  trying to save the lives of others and, as we all know, will continue to do so until they  themselves are given evacuation orders. We wish them a swift and safe return home. .

While there is much pressure to retaliate for the US troops that were killed, there is no sound  reason to continue a 20-year war of invasion by bombing the area. Instead, we urge that every  possible effort is made to bring them to justice. The war has repeatedly proven to have been a

tragic error from the beginning, and has served no useful purpose either for the Afghan or for the  American people.

We call on our government to:

  • Evacuate all Americans, and all Afghans who supported the U.S. Military who want to  leave
  • Bring all our troops home
  • No bombing in retaliation for US troops killed- bring them to justice
  • Recognize and provide services for all our deployed troops, including the national guard,  when they get home.
  • Stop endless wars!!
